Evergreen Shipping, the trunk line operator in Taiwan, China, will spend more than $222 million to buy more equipment.
In a document submitted to the Taiwan, China Stock Exchange on November 27, EVA said that it would purchase 60000 dry containers, 7000 refrigerated containers, 7000 refrigerated generators and 800 special containers.
The company stated that it needs to replace old containers to meet the growing demand for refrigerated and frozen cargo transportation.
These dry containers will be purchased by Evergreen Shipping (Asia) Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Evergreen registered in Singapore, at a cost of 130.38 million US dollars, and manufactured by Orient International Container (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of COSCO Shipping Development.
Refrigerators and special containers will cost $47.96 million and will also be manufactured by Dongfang.
The refrigerated box generator will be purchased from Carrier Transicold for a price of 43.75 million US dollars.
Evergreen is the seventh largest liner operator in the world, with 126 self owned vessels and 84 leased vessels, with an in-service capacity of 1.64 million TEUs. There are 71 new ships under construction on the container line, with a total TEU of 825218.
